Staples this year has another giveaway for business cards, in-store.
Not as good as the 100 for $2 they had about two years ago, IMO, but its free.
I'll give this another whirl with my new, updated social calling card and then post a review of the process.
If you've been around our shoots, contact info comes in handy when letting the model(s) know where to look for the finished photos.

Tree Yoga shoot
From last Friday. There may be more shoots of this in the future. Hal, the director, is looking at publicizing tree yoga and may need our expertise in getting images published. There is also a choreographed video in the works. Let me know through my email if there are any videographers out there who want to know more.

Does Canon 580ex II have built in optical slave?
I don't trust the web forums for reliable information, so a question for the photographers.
Does the Canon 580ex II have built in optical slave?
i.e. does the flash fire when it sees other flash firing?

Expired: Cheap Domain Registration for $1.19 @ GoDaddy
This is how I set up www.utdphoto.com last August. Now is the time to get one for yourself before it expires. You could make a domain for your portfolio, then link back to your blog, flickr, etc. (utdphoto just links back to blogspot)
Coupon information can be found frontpage of http://slickdeals.net/
I'll let everyone know when those business cards deals come out. You've seen me pass out cards every time on photoshoots.

Photoworks and new pictures
Sorry, I have been neglecting this blog. We need a new flier! The one we have up now is an embarrassing photo of me. =( Also, if anyone else at UTD wants to write in this blog, then please tell us!
The UTD photography students have a show coming up and would like you to join us!
Photoworks 2009 Group Photography Exhibition
Visual Arts Building, May 22 - June 13, 2009
Opening reception: Friday, May 22, 6:30-0:00 pm
Please come out! =)
Okay, so here are a few pictures that I have taken since my last post.
Model: Melanie Yenchai
Comments: This was also taken at the St. Anthony hotel in San Antonio at their bar area using one 430ex flash with a softbox. I put together the background and Melanie on different layers to achieve this look.

Model: Patrick Su
Comments: This was around the time I was practicing head shots. I used the dynalites for this and had one of the strobes as a hair light.

Model: Gene Rios
Comments: Another headshot with the dynalites from school. Look ma, no reflections! :)

Model: Hai Yen Nguyen
Comments: This was on campus at UTD and I was trying a different lighting technique with using a faster shutter speed.
Model: Hai Yen Nguyen
Comments: This was also on campus at UTD. There was a random motorcycle near the library that she hopped on really quickly for this picture. =)

Model: Alice Nguyen
Comments: I made her jump often to get this picture. =P

I could use a SFF DSLR
Small Form Factor, cause I'm going to Siggraph this summer! The Nikon D5000 just released and I could use a small dslr for my upcoming trips.
The video makes it seem like my 1st grader can do it.

We welcome travel photos... from you!
I'll be in Florida all Spring Break doing things. And I'll take pictures too. I invite anyone to let all the readers see what travel photos you would like to share. Have em posted on this site, or simply post a link to your own site. No description for the picture/snapshot needed, anything goes.
Send me an email lpn071000@utdallas.edu
Also, I would like to know if there is anyway for a user to post pictures onto a gallery without having to register for anything. I think there is a ATEC flickr pool but hoping for something more easier and simpler to upload and share.

Side shooting with Hubert
I was deleting some of my blog post drafts until I came across this six month old post I forgot to publish. 10/23/08 was the date I originally planned to show.
UTD ATEC
The good folks managing the ATEC blog mention UTD Photo on their site, http://utdatec.wordpress.com/
All things ATEC go there. Check it out.

Objects and Head Shots
Sorry, I got lazy with updating the blog. :( I don't really like my shots from the photoshoot with Reiko so I'm not blogging about those. Here are a few shots from an assignment we did for class. We had to practice lighting form.
Object: Sake Bottle
Comments: For this shot, I sort of followed the beer bottle setup shot from strobist: http://strobist.blogspot.com/2008/03/diy-light-beer.html My modified version was using what I was able to check out from school, which was two tungsten lights (one of the left and right of the bottle) and I also used one 430speedlite (underneath pointing upwards).
Object: Yoyamart Dunny
Comments: One tungsten light camera left pointed at the object and one camera right pointed at the back of the object.

Object: Yoyamart Dunny
Comments: Here you can see my setup. The glass on the box is a piece of glass/plastic from a picture frame and the black cloth is a graduation gown, because I couldn't find a large piece of black cloth.

Model: Melanie Yenchai
Comments: I decided to try a head shot with the tungsten lights for class. There was supposed to be kiwi floating around her face, but that didn't work out since they just sunk to the bottom of the tub! The lesson learned from this is to test out your concept first. :(
Model: Melanie Yenchai
Comments: I used the dynalite strobes for this. One camera left with a sofbox and one high above her camera right pointing downwards.

Model: Leah Foster
Comments: We were practicing doing glamour shot lighting for head shots upstairs in the art barn since I found a tutorial on it. I believe long posted up a setup shot previously.

Model: Caly Ngo
Comments: I learned that when the model wears black and a tank top, the image doesn't turn out as well as someone wearing brighter colors and a long sleeve shirt.
